Straight Creek Valley Farm
Straight Creek Valley Farm
Georgetown, Ohio
Welcome to Straight Creek Valley Farm, 63 acres of beautiful creek
bottom land, purchased by husband and wife,Greg Cole and Christine
Tailer, in the spring of 2003. The farm lies three miles north of the Ohio
River in South central Ohio, about 50 miles, as the crow flies, southeast
of Cincinnati. In August of 2007, Greg and Christine placed their city
house on the market and moved out to the farm, living off of the grid
and learning to love an entirely new lifestyle.
3. We built and lived with the most beautiful outhouse in the county for
over one year, before we finished up the septic system.
6. We have learned, and are still learning, to plant a quarter acre
garden that the neighboring wild life frequent regularly.
7. We have planted an apple orchard and small vineyard, and in the
summer of 2008 harvested our first fruit.
8. We have learned how to plant and harvest nine acres of field corn,
and have put in our first winter wheat and have planted our first crop of
soy beans, all under the guidance of our farmer neighbor. We even
procured an alcohol still and registered it with the Federal Bureau of
Tobacco, Alcohol and Firearms so that we can produce fuel with
which to run our farm equipment.
11. We have harvested our first black walnuts and learned the hard
way what not to do.
And there is so much more! Click on a topic above to follow our specific
adventures and be sure to visit our site often as we add to it.
12. We are constantly learning about the plant and animal life
indigenous to Straight Creek.
4. We have built a 40' by 60' pole barn, with the help of our beloved
580D backhoe.
